The New Rules of Technology
This edition of Law Update looks at how technology is changing the legal questions businesses are facing across the region. From AI and deepfakes to cyber incidents, cloud services, data protection and digital assets, our lawyers examine where the risks are emerging and how regulators are responding.
The edition also brings together recent legislative developments and significant court decisions from across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with a closer look at what they mean in practice for businesses operating in the region.

Welcome to this month’s Law Update.
This issue focuses on Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT), and it comes at a particularly pertinent time for us at Al Tamimi & Company. Like most businesses, we have had to review our work model over the last year and bring it in line with modern, more agile ways of collaborating with each other.
For us to be a truly innovative law firm, we have had to embraced change and go on a digital transformation journey. One that has seen us implement a new hybrid-working model that encourages collaboration and enables us to work seamlessly from anywhere; home, office or from different parts of the world. We focused on using technology as the main enabler to this new way of working, making us more efficient and accessible. The shift to this new hybrid way of working has culminated in us moving to a new office in Dubai, a space that we have designed to harness values such as – being innovative, encouraging collaboration, ensuring colleagues have a work-life balance, and improving our environmental footprint.
Successful digital transformation comes with more than just updating technology or redesigning products and processes; it affects internal values and behaviours. Therefore, we have had to ensure consistent, and transparent internal communications every step of the way. We have had to think beyond technology when it came to this transformation.
In this Law Update, you will find articles that cover various TMT areas, from new ways of working and digital transformation in the finance sector to data protection regulatory updates and guidance. We have a series of articles that focus on e-commerce across a number of jurisdictions. You will also find insights from our lawyers around real estate analytics, tech trends, and data centres.
This edition will provide expert commentary and insights on areas that are not only pertinent to the legal landscape, but are relevant to how we are embracing TMT and evolving as a business community and even as a society.
Outside the TMT focus, we continue to share with you real-life judgments that provide context to the legal landscape across the region.
I hope that you enjoy this issue, and should you have any comments or questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any of the lawyers that have contributed.
