Biography
Soobin is an Associate in Al Tamimi & Company’s Korea Group, based in Riyadh, and an admitted attorney of the Republic of South Africa. Before joining the firm, she trained and worked at Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer in Johannesburg, where she acted in complex, high-value cross-border disputes across multiple jurisdictions.
Soobin advises clients on a broad range of matters, with particular experience in dispute resolution, including commercial litigation and domestic and international arbitration under major institutional rules such as the ICC, LCIA, and AFSA. Her work spans industries including financial services, mining, energy, telecommunications, technology, and infrastructure, supporting both multinational corporations and Korean companies on multi-jurisdictional matters.
In addition to her disputes practice, Soobin advises on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and internal investigations, including multi-jurisdictional matters and emerging areas such as fintech and crypto-asset regulation. She also has experience in corporate and commercial law, as well as projects, energy, and infrastructure. She is engaged day-to-day in supporting clients seeking to enter the MENA market, as well as those operating and investing in the region, advising on corporate structuring, regulatory and compliance matters, and commercial arrangements.
Soobin holds an LLB from Stellenbosch University and a Bachelor of Social Science in Politics and International Relations from the University of Cape Town. She is fluent in English and Korean.
Recent Experience
- Represented the project company and shareholder group of a gold mining venture in ICC arbitration seated in England, and in related injunction proceedings before the Ghanaian courts, in a dispute concerning control and operational rights over a major mining asset.
- Representing South African major banks in LCIA arbitration, seated in England, arising from a USD 115 million cross-border financing dispute.
- Acting for a client in a shareholders’ dispute involving breach of the shareholders agreement in arbitration proceedings under the AFSA rules, and representing the client in defending a review proceeding following the arbitration.
- Acting for a major mining company in a mediated dispute concerning contractual obligations with a state-owned logistics company.
- Represented a cryptocurrency exchange in High Court proceedings concerning a referral to arbitration.
- Advising a global fintech company on multi-jurisdictional regulatory considerations relating to crypto-asset services across Africa.
- Representing the solar power project companies in urgent interdict proceedings arising from community unrest at project sites.
