Biography

Basma is a well-known public figure with over 15 years of experience in the field, renowned for tackling highly complex legal disputes with robust advocacy and a pragmatic yet innovative approach. Basma is also qualified as an arbitrator and has experience adjudicating arbitration cases in Oman. Her experience as legal counsel and arbitrator allows for a unique perspective, optimal in representing clients effectively and successfully.

Prior to joining Al Tamimi & Company, Basma was the founder and managing partner of BK Law, where she fostered a young, skilled and energetic culture with a focus on international standards with local expertise and know-how.

  • Optimally represented clients in over 2,000 litigation cases, covering various practice areas and industries including aviation, retail, real estate, oil and gas, power and utilities, energy, telecommunications and hospitality.
  • Represented waste management company in a contractual dispute valued at OMR 4M.
  • Advised on and developed litigation strategy for a share purchase agreement valued over USD 40M, wherein the dispute included breach of conditions precedents, unforeseen circumstances affecting the transactions, challenges and mechanisms of transferring shares between companies in different jurisdictions, amongst other factors.
  • Acted as a national consultant to the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organisations in Oman and advised in drafting and reviewing secondary legislation in the form of executive regulations within the agriculture and fisheries industry.
  • Advised on defence strategy and acted as Lead Counsel in a high profile arbitration before the Singapore International Arbitration Center, in relation to a cross-jurisdiction joint venture.
  • Acted as Lead Counsel in multiple arbitrations under Omani Arbitration Laws, from pre-dispute strategy to award, with successful outcomes.
  • Acted as Lead counsel in an arbitration under Omani Arbitration laws involving a contractual dispute in relation to a pipeline project issued by two major oil & gas companies in Oman.
  • Arbitrated over multiple construction disputes under the Omani laws of arbitration.
  • Advised on share acquisition of an oil and gas company valued over USD 20M.
  • Advised entities on restructuring strategies, corporate governance, compliance frameworks and insolvency procedures.
  • Advised and drafted agreements in various sectors including aviation, mining, real estate, product manufacturing, and oil and gas.
