Akbar is an Associate with Dispute Resolution team of Al Tamimi & Company, Dubai, with over 20 years of overall experience with the firm. He specialises in international commercial arbitration.

Akbar is a practicing Solicitor, England & Wales, with right to practice law in Dubai and is a registered Legal Consultant with the Dubai Legal Affairs Department (DLAD) since 2018.

He has extensive experience in corporate, commercial, construction, and real estate disputes resolution through domestic and international commercial arbitration under the rules of DIAC, ICC, LCIA, LMAA, QICCA and UNCITRAL ad hoc proceedings with substantive civil and common law applications seated in Dubai, DIFC, Qatar, Bahrain, and London.

  • Represented and engaged in preparation of pleadings and witness statements in an LCIA arbitration in relation to a hotel management and shareholder’s dispute involving an amount US$ 140M in dispute under the English law seated in Dubai.
  • Represented and engaged in preparation of pleadings in a DIAC arbitration case with Dubai seat involving sale and purchase of multiple units and real estate project finance with an amount of AED 150M in dispute under the UAE law.
  • Represented and engaged in preparation of pleadings and witness statements in a construction arbitration under the rules of QICCA seated in Qatar involving supply, delivery, and installation of stone works with an amount of QAR 20M in dispute under the Qatari law.
  • Represented and engaged in preparation of pleadings and witness statements in an ICC arbitration case with Singapore seat involving fraudulent transfer of fund and non-payment of freight with US$2.5M in dispute under the English law.
  • Represented and engaged in preparation of pleadings and witness statements in a DIAC arbitration case seated in Dubai involving sale and purchase of over 150 apartments in a real estate project in Dubai involving AED 90M in dispute under the UAE law.
