Qasim is an Irish and UK qualified lawyer with over eight years of international tax and legal experience in the Middle East, United Kingdom and Ireland. Prior to joining Al Tamimi, Qasim practiced within the M&A tax and International tax teams of big 4 firms in the Middle East and London, United Kingdom, He has also worked as Tax Counsel within the pharmaceuticals industry.

Qasim specializes in advising private equity firms, sovereign wealth funds and multi-national corporations on cross border tax matters, including M&A transactions involving tax due diligence, tax planning and restructuring. He has significant experience of advising on all direct taxes and VAT related matters.

Recent Experience

  • Advised a portfolio company of a sovereign wealth fund on its proposed acquisition of a significant minority interest in a target with subsidiaries in over 30 jurisdictions across the globe for a purchase price of USD1.4bn. The tax advice also included reviewing pre-transaction restructuring that was undertaken by the target to facilitate the transaction. Further, I was heavily involved in negotiating the tax aspects of the share-purchase agreement.
  • Advised a sovereign wealth fund undertake a tax efficient restructuring of its holding in a portfolio company with subsidiaries located in various jurisdictions, including in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Hungary, India, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and US.
  • Advised private equity firm on its proposed acquisition of a UAE headquartered solar energy company with subsidiaries in KSA, Egypt, Qatar and Pakistan.
  • Advised a sovereign wealth fund on establishing a tax efficient holding structure for future potential investments in Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Sudan and UAE.
  • Advised a corporation within the telecommunications sector on a potential tax dispute with the tax authorities in India.
  • Advised various private equity firms (e.g. Softbank, Brookfield and Lion Capital) and (e.g. Liberty Global’s on its proposed joint venture with Telefonica with a deal value of GBP31.4bn) on M&A transactions involving tax due diligence, structuring and tax modelling projects in London.
  • Advised an insurance company on reviewing its W&I insurance policy based on tax due diligence undertaken by a big 4 firm.
