Biography

Faizan has over 6 years of transactional and advisory experience on a broad range of banking and finance matters. He has particular expertise in advising on project finance, trade finance and Islamic finance transactions.

His repertoire also includes advising banks with respect to social loans, green loans and sustainability- linked loans.

Faizan is a regular contributor to thought leadership and publications such as articles on (i) green, social and sustainability linked loans; (ii) sustainable finance and ESG developments in Bahrain; and (iii) security creation in Bahrain. He also assisted with developing the Financial Law Module of the Bahrain Professional Legal Practice Course (Bahrain LPC), a pilot programme developed by the Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs and the judicial and legal studies bodies in Bahrain and delivered the Financial Law Module to the 2022-2023 Bahrain LPC programme.

  • Saudi Awwal Bank, advising the bank in respect of the simplification of the conventional and Islamic finance documents as well as preparing the bank’s template financing documentation pertaining to social loans, green loans and sustainability-linked loans.
  • Advising the Saudi Power Procurement Company, as the principal off-taker in relation the development of four combined cycle gas turbine power plants (Taiba 1, Taiba 2, Qassim 1 and Qassim 2) with a total capacity of 8,400MW.
  • Ahli United Bank B.S.C. – Al Hilal Islamic Banking Services, acting as lead and local counsel to the bank in relation to an Ijara facility of up to USD 145,000,000 that was made available to the Government of Sharjah represented by Sharjah Finance Department.
  • Advising GFH Financial Group B.S.C (Bahrain), as lender’s counsel in relation to a USD 150,000,000 Murabaha financing facility to Esterad Investment Company B.S.C.
  • Advising Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait B.S.C as lender’s counsel in relation to SAR denominated trade finance facilities amounting to an aggregate of SAR 55,000,000 to Tajeer International Company.
  • Advising Takween Advanced Industries, a leading global supplier of food and medical grade plastic packaging and non-woven fabrics of Saudi Arabia (as the borrower) in relation to a Saudi Riyal denominated working capital facility in an aggregate amount of SAR 55,000,000 that was made available to it by Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait B.S.C. (Bahrain Business: BBK signs Takween deal (gdnonline.com)).
  • Ahli United Bank B.S.C., acting as lead local counsel for the bank in relation to the drafting and development of product documentation in light of the bank’s conversion from a conventional bank to an Islamic bank. Product documentation included retail account and credit card terms and conditions as well as invoice factoring and supply chain documents.
  • Bahrain Development Bank B.S.C. (C), acting as lead local counsel for the bank in relation to the drafting and development of supply chain financing documentation and assisting the bank in structuring the supply chain programme which shall be offered to customers through a digital platform.
