Dr Sherif leads the Firm Energy Department in Egypt, bringing with him over 30 years of extensive experience in the Egyptian energy sector. He advises a broad range of clients, including major international corporations and mid-sized enterprises, across the full spectrum of the oil and gas industry—upstream, midstream, and downstream—as well as in the rapidly growing renewable energy sector. He provides strategic legal counsel throughout all stages of the project lifecycle, from initial investment and regulatory approvals to project execution, operations, and compliance. His deep sector knowledge and commercial acumen enable him to deliver tailored, high-quality legal solutions that address the complex challenges of energy projects in Egypt.
Prior to joining Al Tamimi & Company, Dr Sherif served as General Counsel of ExxonMobil Egypt for 22 years. In this role, he led the Egyptian Law Department and was responsible for all legal matters relating to the company’s business and operations in Egypt and the downstream business and operations in the United Arab Emirates. He also served as an executive member of various ExxonMobil Management Committees. Before joining ExxonMobil Egypt, Dr Sherif served as an in-house Counsel for Amoco Oil (currently bp) for 4 years in which he was responsible for providing legal support regarding the day-to-day operations of the company’s upstream held concessions (including the merged concessions). Dr Sherif experience additionally includes serving as a practicing lawyer for around 8 year at 4 major local laws firms in Egypt in which one was an international Firm (Baker Mckenzie) and one he served as Partner and Head of the Energy Department.
