Biography

Asad is an associate in the Banking & Finance practice at Al Tamimi & Company’s Oman office.

Asad has experience in a variety of banking and finance matters, including Islamic financing and conventional financing, and advisory & regulatory compliance matters. Prior to this, he has had extensive experience working on different practice areas of the law, including corporate and commercial, real estate, and intellectual property. He has advised companies from a variety of industries such as pharmaceutical and energy.

Asad is dual qualified as a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales and as an Advocate of the High Court of Sindh, Pakistan. He worked at one of the top firms in Pakistan prior to joining Al Tamimi & Company.

  • Acted for a major Kuwaiti bank in relation to an English law interbank facility provided to a large bank in Oman.
  • Acting as local counsel for a multinational education group in relation to a large-scale financing provided by a major UAE based bank.
  • Acted as local counsel for a multinational packaging film manufacturer and supplier in relation to a refinancing happening at group level.
  • Acted for a major Bahrain based bank in relation to a financing provided to an Omani airline.
  • Acted as local counsel for a major Indian bank in relation to financing provided to an Omani company for the purposes of setting up a chemical complex.
  • Acted as local counsel for a major engineering group in relation to the local aspects, including security creation, of a financing provided to the engineering group.
  • Drafted a bespoke collateral and netting opinion for Oman on the FCM model without ISDA for a major international bank.
  • Issuing a netting and collateral opinion for Oman to a major international bank in relation to the entry by an Oman government entity to ISDA Agreements.
  • Advising a major UAE based bank on security creation and client on-boarding requirements in relation to its Omani branch.
  • Reviewed and advised on a margin financing agreement for a major Omani bank.
  • Advising various entities, including an online platform and an asset management company on the legal aspects of marketing funds in Oman.
  • Conducted due diligence from a banking and finance perspective on various companies including a pharmacy and a factory.
