Al Tamimi & Company successfully support Mohamed Salah in infringement dispute against the Egyptian FA

Al Tamimi & Company (“Al Tamimi”) are pleased to announce that our Intellectual Property team successfully supported Liverpool football star, Mohamed Salah, in his infringement dispute with the Egyptian FA.

Mohamed has led the Egyptian national team to their first World Cup in 28 years, and received numerous awards as one of football’s finest. However, all image rights of Mohamed are waved to MS Commercial (Cayman) LTD. Accordingly, his Agent, Ramy Abbas, on behalf of MS Commercial, contacted Al Tamimi when the dispute erupted in March, whereby a large-scale image of Mohamed appeared on the side of Egypt’s team plane for the Russia World Cup 2018.

The image was provided by the Egyptian national team’s official World Cup sponsor, Presentation Sports, who executed marketing deals based on the image rights with Egypt Air and many others, to which the EFA approved, without any prior consultation or consent given by Mohamed.

Omar Obeidat, Partner & Head of Al Tamimi’s Intellectual Property practice, added: “Because of our team’s regional presence and strong expertise in this field, we were pleased to swiftly and effectively resolve this issue for Mohamed in Egypt. Our team have been extremely busy in the sports sector in relation to IP infringement matters this year and are also delighted to have been selected, once again, as IP legal counsel to FIFA for to the upcoming World Cup in Russia – we look forward to the games!”
