Al Tamimi & Company announces partner promotions across the Middle East

 

 

Al Tamimi & Company, the largest law firm in the Middle East has announced the promotion of six new partners in Iraq, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Rafiq Jaffer (Banking & Finance, Qatar), Jawad Khalaf (Litigation, Iraq), Mamoon Khan (Banking & Finance, UAE), Ibtissam Lassoued (Financial Crime, UAE), Frank Lucente (Corporate Commercial, Qatar) and Munir Suboh (IP, UAE) and were all promoted bringing the Al Tamimi partnership number to 44 across the region.

Rafiq Jaffer recently moved to the Qatar office of Al Tamimi to head the Banking & Finance practice. Previously, Rafiq was Head of Legal of Barclays Bank PLC (India) and was part of the Senior Leadership Committee responsible for management of Barclays Corporate in India.

Jawad Khalaf is based in the firm’s Baghdad office in Iraq.  Jawad is an experienced lawyer in all fields of Iraqi law including civil, penal and civil status lawsuits.  Prior to working at Al Tamimi & Company, Jawad was a legal adviser and an attorney for the Trade Bank of Iraq, Commercial Bank of Iraq, Credit Bank of Iraq, Modern Paints Industries Co. and several respected legal practices.

Mamoon Khan is based in the DIFC office in the UAE and specialises in banking, corporate lending, project finance and aircraft finance transactions (conventional and Islamic). Mamoon has been involved in a number of notable financing transactions including advising a syndicate of Mashreq Bank, BNP Paribas and HSBC in connection with Syndicated Master Finance Facilities to Cebarco WCT WLL for over USD 190 million in relation to the Formula One race track project in Abu Dhabi.

Ibtissam Lassoued is based in the firm’s DIFC office in the UAE and advises a variety of clients on local and international financial crime matters, involving issues such as complex corporate fraud, assets tracing, money laundering and extradition. Her cases often require tactical management of simultaneous legal actions in several jurisdictions. Ibtissam also leads the firm’s growing practice in Global Economic Sanctions, advising local and multinational clients on this increasingly-important topic.

Frank Lucente is based in the firm’s Qatar office. Frank covers all aspects of the corporate and commercial practice having previously worked in this field in Australia for over 20 years.  Frank has been a key advisor to NYSE-Euronext in relation to its interest in the Qatar Exchange

Munir Suboh is based in the firm’s DIFC office in the UAE and has worked with the IP team for over four years. His career highlights include having a subpoena issued by the Dubai Court which was recognised by the US domain names registry; and working with the Dubai Customs Authority on the seizure of an air transshipment of more than 700 kilograms of counterfeit cigars with a street value of more than USD 550,000 and imposing a fine of around nearly USD 110,000.
