Biography

Wesley has over 14 years’ experience advising on a wide range of shipping and international trade matters focused primarily on disputes. He has significant experience acting for clients in ship arrests and attachments relating to charterparty disputes, bunker, cargo, mortgage and crew claims amongst many others.

Wesley also specialises in large complex international trade, trade finance and commodity disputes. He is a member of the Transport & Insurance group.

Wesley is ranked by Chambers & Partners and recognised by Legal 500 as a Next Generation Partner and he is the International Bar Association’s Maritime and Transport Law Committee Regional Representative for the Middle East.

Recent Experience

  • Acted for a Swiss Bank against whom a multimillion US Dollar fraud had been perpetrated by a large petrochemicals supplier to whom the bank had extended credit facilities.
  • Acted for the DIFC branch of a large State-owned bank in a claim of almost USD40m under a ship mortgage and made a significant recovery after arresting and judicially selling the vessel.  The litigation involved onshore (Khorfakkan Court) proceedings as well as proceedings in the DIFC Courts, including a freezing order injunction.
  • Advised a Swiss Bank, as lender, in respect of a multimillion US Dollar claim relating to a complex fraud by the borrower in the context of a trade finance arrangement.
  • Arrested various ships (including sister ships) on behalf of one of the world’s largest bunker suppliers for claims for unpaid bunkers.
