Biography
Roberto has gained extensive experience and developed expertise in the areas of telecommunications, media and technology (TMT), with a focus on on large/turnkey projects and related implementation, as well as in corporate and commercial and M&A matters.
Roberto has over twenty years’ experience and has worked in Qatar since 2008, mainly in private practice but with some in-house experience, for clients in various sectors, including large corporates, TMT, infrastructure and financial services. He has advised clients both in private and public sectors, within and outside the GCC, on matters relating to English, Qatar and QFC law.
Roberto is a dual Italian/South African citizen who has worked at a boutique firm in South Africa, a regional firm in Romania as well as various regional and global firms in. While in Qatar he has also worked in an in-house role at Al Jazeera Media Network from 2015 to 2017, attending to and managing substantial media and technology projects. Roberto is qualified to practice under South African as well as English Law.
Recent Experience
- legal and regulatory framework to establish a media and technology economic zone in Qatar, including drafting a suite of regulations as well as preparation of template agreements and documents.
- Assisting with and advising on the merger between Masraf Al Rayan and Al Khalij Commercial Bank, including the related due diligence investigation and, specifically, the review of all IT- and data privacy-related contracts and transactions.
- Assisting and advising a global media network on agreements and transactions in respect of channel distribution, supply and commissioning of fibre optic and satellite networks, broadcast, live streaming and other software solutions/systems, media and content licensing, rights and clearances, sponsorship and advertising as well as a digital platforms and media.
- Advising a global electric utility company on privacy and data protection matters and review of agreements for related purposes.
- Advising a global banking and financial services group on privacy and data protection matters under Qatar and QFC law.
- Advising on software license agreements, satellite network services agreement and various IT implementation and services agreements for global fleet management in respect of various yachts.
- Advising on and assisting with the corporate structuring and related legal agreements/documentation in connection with a global project for the development of various connected data centre parks
