Biography

Justin is a Senior Associate in Al Tamimi & Company’s Arbitration department. He is admitted to practice law in the United States (New York), England & Wales and Italy. During his career, Justin has advised prominent corporate entities in cross-border disputes in several jurisdictions concerning construction, real estate, sale of goods, oil & gas, M&A, distribution and franchise agreements. He has handled over two dozen arbitrations administered by various arbitration centres (i.e., ICC, LCIA, DIFC-LCIA, DIAC, ADCCAC, FIFA, CAS and CAM), as well as ad-hoc arbitrations under the UNCITRAL rules.

Justin began his legal career at BonelliErede in Milan (Italy) in 2014, before moving to Dubai (UAE) in 2020.

Justin is a committee member of the MENA Sub-Committee for Greener Arbitrations. He is also a member of the Rising Arbitrators Initiative (RAI).

Justin is a frequent contributor to, among others, LexisNexis Middle East and was given the “Arbitration Author Award” in 2020.

Recent Experience

  • Defending an international joint venture in three ICC arbitrations (seated in the UAE or Qatar) separately commenced by different sub-contractors arising from a dispute concerning the construction of a major transportation project in Qatar.
  • Representing two subsidiaries of a world-renowned EPC contractor in an UNCITRAL arbitration seated in India against a large Indian consortium in a dispute arising from two EPC contracts for the construction of petrochemical plants.
  • Representing a leading Italian manufacturer of steelmaking plants and its Malaysian subsidiary in an ICC arbitration seated in Singapore against a Malaysian company involving claims exceeding Euro 400 million.
  • Successfully obtaining arbitral awards for a Dubai-based developer in two DIAC arbitrations commenced by a semi-governmental entity in a dispute arising from two SPAs for the sale of plots to be developed in Dubai. The counterclaim awarded to the developer was approximately AED 170 million.
  • Representing a Dubai-based developer in a DIAC arbitration commenced against a government authority in a dispute arising from an SPA for the sale of a multi-use land plot to be developed in Dubai.
  • Representing a leading Abu-Dhabi-based contractor in several ADCCAC arbitrations against the employer and sub-contractors in relation to a large infrastructure project in the UAE.
  • Representing a world-renowned franchisor of cafés in an ICC arbitration seated in France against an Iraqi franchisee in a dispute arising out of a series of separate commercial agreements.
  • Representing the African subsidiary of a leading Italian oil & gas producer in an LCIA arbitration (seated in the UK) commenced by a fellow consortium member for damages arising from a participation agreement to which both are parties.
  • Representing the American subsidiary of a prominent Italian manufacturer of scooters and other land vehicles against a Brazilian distributor in an ICC arbitration seated in France in connection with a distribution agreement.
