Sydene Helwick, Partner at Al Tamimi & Company and Jeremy Scott, Senior Associate at Al Tamimi & Company, both attended a closed door roundtable meeting of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, involving representatives from prominent businesses in the real estate sector and RERA. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the Dubai property industry, regulation and the effects of the liquidity crisis.
Frank discussion took place concerning the property industry in Dubai and the problems caused by the financial crisis. It was the consensual view that regulations now in place will assist in creating a more balanced market and that the proposed regulation would also add value. Views on the need for additional regulation were varied but there was strong support for the continuance of the trend towards transparency.
