Biography

Xavier is a lawyer with over 9 years of international tax experience. Prior to joining Al Tamimi in 2017, he worked for more than four years at leading Spanish firm Cuatrecasas.

Xavier specialises on cross border M&A tax, tax litigation, ongoing tax advisory and transfer pricing, in respect of all taxes. His clients include family offices, financial institutions, as well as regional and large multinationals, operating across all industry sectors.

He has experience in Spanish, European and international taxation, currently with a focus on Middle East taxes – in particular, in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

  • Acting as tax counsel to Blackrock’s USD 15.5 billion acquisition of a 49% stake in Saudi Aramco Gas Pipelines.
  • Advising a major hospitality group on the tax implications of their global operations in more than 15 countries, coordinating overseas tax counsel.
  • Representing clients before the Tax Committees in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait.
  • Implementing VAT for clients across the Middle East.
  • Assisting with VAT and withholding tax refund requests, audits and disputes.
  • Carrying on tax due diligences across the Middle East. Advising on M&A tax implications, support with drafting and negotiating legal agreements.
  • Drafting, negotiating and obtaining tax rulings from the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain tax authorities.
  • Ongoing tax advisory in respect of Middle East taxes.
  • Advising on UAE and Bahrain economic substance matters, successfully representing clients in UAE economic substance audits.
