Essam Al Tamimi has over 24 years experience in litigation and dispute resolution in the UAE and other GCC countries and is one of the region’s most respected litigators.
Essam assumes personal responsibility for directing the actions of the firm’s arbitration clients across the United Arab Emirates, and is a strong advocate of the use of arbitration and alternative dispute resolution processes as a means of rapidly furthering client’s business interests.
He has acted within the GCC and internationally as an arbitrator in trial proceedings mainly involving foreign arbitration and is an authority in the UAE Chamber of Commerce arbitration process, as well as UAE arbitration proceedings at the UNCITRAL and International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Essam has also been a Council member in the production of the ICC and London Court of Arbitration (LCIA) rules.
His practice focuses primarily on local and international clients in shipping, banking, intellectual property and commercial litigation, assisting in both defending and pursuing arbitration proceedings locally and internationally.

Essam Al Tamimi has been nominated as one of the best practitioners in "Who's Who Legal: 2008 - UAE" in the Commercial Litigation and Arbitration category. In addition he is the author of a number of leading UAE dispute resolution publications including Arbitration Law in the United Arab Emirates (1997), A Practical Guide to Litigation and Arbitration in the UAE (2003), United Arab Emirates Court of Cassation Judgments 1989-1997 (2003) and United Arab Emirates Court of Cassation Judgments 1998-2003 (2005). He is also the author of The Practitioner's Guide to Arbitration in the Middle East and North Africa (2009) and has written extensively on arbitration matters in leading international publications.
In November 2009 Essam won the Middle East Legal Awards 'Gulf Legal Lifetime Achievement' award for his outstanding contribution to the Gulf legal market.
