Dean O'Leary MA, LLM, MSc, BSc(Hons), DipLaw, DipArb, DipICArb, CertAdj, FCIArb, FCIOB, FASI, FDBF, MCMI, Adjudicator, Arbitrator, Mediator, Barrister (England and Wales) has been handling construction disputes for approximately 25 years. During his professional career, and before practising as a lawyer Dean, held positions as a quantity surveyor, senior claims consultant, senior claims manager and in-house counsel. He came to Dubai in 2006 and joined Al Tamimi in 2008 and leads on construction arbitrations. Dean's primary area of practice is resolving construction and engineering disputes, though he also deals with disputes relating to upstream and midstream Oil & Gas matters. He regularly represents employers, contractors, subcontractors, consultants and suppliers in mediations, adjudications, expert determinations, arbitrations and the DIFC Courts. Dean has experience of the FIDIC, ICE, NEC and JCT standard forms of contract and many bespoke forms too. He works on a daily basis with the FIDIC 1987 and 1999 forms and their respective subcontracts and has conducted arbitrations under the auspices of the DIAC, UNCITRAL, ADCCAC, DIFC-LCIA, QICCA, BCDR-AAA and ICC Arbitration Rules and ad hoc arbitrations pursuant to the lex arbitri of the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar. He is also conversant with local substantive and procedural laws and is happy to accept appointments as an arbitrator, adjudicator or mediator.
