The Hawkamah Judicial and Financial Colloquium took place on 18 and 19 March 2014 at the DIFC Conference Centre in Dubai and was an initiative of the Forum for Insolvency Reforms in MENA(FIRM). The topic of the event, “Restructuring – Turnaround and Insolvency”, is one of relevance in today’s world and has new trends in legislation and practice consistently emerging. The presentations and panel discussions during the two day event provided attendees with insight on the effects of new trends in legislations on transactions and business operations, insolvency and restructuring debt. Senior Partner Essam Al Tamimi presented a case study of a successful state owned enterprise business reorganisation. A discussion followed where he was joined by speakers from Hadef & Partners and McKinsey & Company. The colloquium was opened by the Minister of Justice; H.E Dr. Hadef bin Jua’an Al Dhaheri, Secretary General Dubai Economic Council; H.E Hani R. Al Hamli and Interim CEO Hawkamah; Dr. Sameer Al Ansari. The attendees included judges and judicial authorities, government officials and policy makers, bankers, and lawyers in the region.
