On 28 April 2013, the Abu Dhabi Quality & Conformity Council (ADQCC) held its first forum in Abu Dhabi announcing its agenda and seeking input from industry and other regulators both from within the UAE and abroad. The vision of the ADQCC, which is made up of Abu Dhabi’s regulators, is to develop Abu Dhabi's quality infrastructure to achieve global distinction for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. At the QCC’s forum entitled ‘Shaping Quality Infrastructure’, Partner James MacCallum from the Corporate department of Al Tamimi & Company presented as a guest speaker on legal aspects of Product Conformity. Other notable speakers during the session were H.E. Mouza Al Muhairi (Executive Director of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority), Lee L. Bishop (Senior Counsel for Product Safety and Regulatory Compliance for General Electric) and Carol Pollack-Nelson (President of International Consumer Product Health and Safety, USA). James’ presentation addressed the current regulatory framework relating to quality standards in Abu Dhabi, consumer protection, product recalls, penalties for non-compliance and put forward a number of suggestions to improve the legislative measures and regulatory framework currently in place in Abu Dhabi and the UAE.
Attendees included representatives of Abu Dhabi regulatory bodies, government-affiliated and private sector companies from Abu Dhabi, representatives of international companies operating or trading in the UAE, international standards organisations, certification and accreditation agencies.
