Omar Obeidat, Partner and Head of Intellectual Property at Al Tamimi & Company, chaired the seminar which was attended by international and regional brand owners. Speakers at the seminar included Mr. Abdullah Al Shehhi, Director of the Commercial Protection Section at the Dubai Department of Economic Development and Mr. Khaldoun Odeh, Regional Security Manager for Merck Sharp & Dohme for the Middle East and North Africa region.
The seminar covered the latest developments concerning intellectual property rights protection in Dubai and live case examples of counterfeiting actions, data and statistics about seizures and information on the types of products most commonly counterfeited were shared and discussed. The seminar also introduced to the attendees extended administrative steps that can be taken in Dubai, including the raiding of warehouses, inspections of residential apartments used for storing and selling counterfeit goods and trade name conflicts.
This is one of a number of seminars that Al Tamimi & Company’s Intellectual Property Department is holding with various enforcement agencies in the Middle East, allowing clients exposure to key government officials and providing clients with updates on anti counterfeiting actions taken by these authorities.
